FTS Thanks for 2021 – A year in review

This year was … a lot. FarmTech Society grew, despite the odds, doubled its membership again. Thank you and together with you we want to create the roaring twenties in agriculture!

Happy New Year!

FarmTech Society for the members, by the members, the board and the daily management team managed to accelerate and launch major initiatives for our fledgling industry with our limited resources! More events and conferences were co-hosted and moderated with our team and a number of important public funding applications are awaiting decisions! The progress is encouraging and FTS will leapfrog all challenges in the next years and establish the organization as an international authority and relevant sectorial representation in major markets, aligning the industry and providing the mutual narrative to be recognized as the voice for CEA globally.

There are some exciting developments to send you off into 2022 with some educated optimism:

 1. Green-energy transformation and its integration with CEA

Climate change is the most complex problem in history. We won’t solve it with technology alone, but we also can’t solve it without technology. Clustering CEA operations on a larger scale within green infrastructure will provide largescale career opportunities (job generator) and the needed energy storage and balancing of volatility in the grid, as well as the needed decarbonization of agriculture and the regional food sovereignty and security around major population centers regardless of the climate challenges!

2. Advances in understanding complex organism and systems

Biotech wonders, like mRNA technology will also help revolutionize the way we grow food and nutritional products. Mapping genetic origins of complex natural process will help design great new avenues to overcome challenges in plant production hybridized solution utilizing CEA as a major system stage, even within largescale field grown commodities. Design for flavor and nutrition profiles in breeding of fruit and vegetable are reality and will revolutionize the produce category!

3. AI assistance to mitigate hazards and waste, create super efficiencies

Agriculture will never have a problem in displacing jobs with AI – quite the opposite, with AI, creative innovation will lead to commercial viability – great science and tech are like delicate plants. Optimal conditions to grow are in high demand. For the first time in many decades, with the help of CEA, a massive digital transition in agriculture is becoming a reality!

With these thoughts, FTS is wishing you all a healthy prosperous New Year and looking forward to engage with each of you; let me know if you have ideas, suggestions and or would like to join our growing society!

Thank you again for your continued support!
